Typesetting

• Traditional typesetting

  Traditional typesetting, with its allegiance to quality, style and typographic requirements is RCL’s raison d’être. Many of our team are time-served craftsmen who take great pride in their work and in passing on those skills to our younger generation. We can take your manuscript, your latest database, or your XML and turn each of them into pristine print-ready PDF.

• Data provision/manipulation

  Whatever your data requirements, RCL can provide them efficiently and cost-effectively. Whether the source is hard copy, word-processed files, databases, etc., and whether you require the end-product to be word-processed files, databases, HTML, XML, etc., we will be able to quote competitively, with agreed turnround times and with first-class quality.

Project Management (PM)

RCL carries out PM for a number of publishing clients and non-traditional publishers as well. We tailor projects to clients’ needs and, whether partial PM (within the typesetting field only) or full PM (through to printing and despatch), you can be assured of a personal approach to your requirements.

• Liaison

  RCL’s Administration team are experienced and knowledgeable and believe that full liaison with all interested parties is the key to good PM. We inform and/or fully involve clients and the respective parties at each and every stage – the extent of involvement is decreed by the client and not pre-determined by RCL.

• Copy editing

  RCL has built up a team of skilled, reliable, freelance copy editors who operate to a client’s brief and liaise directly with clients, authors and RCL. Depending on requirements, copy editors will be commissioned directly to a client, or RCL will act as intermediary.

• Proofreading

  Thanks to previous PM projects, RCL has built up a team of skilled, reliable, freelance proofreaders. Generally, proof readers operate to an agreed style brief and report to RCL, who will collate the proofs and be responsible for additional author/client queries. As with copy editors, proofreaders will be commissioned directly by a client, or RCL will act as intermediary if required.

• Indexing

  RCL works closely with professional indexers who operate to the client’s brief, especially with regard to the levels and length of index required. As with other freelancers, indexers will be commissioned directly by a client, or RCL will act as intermediary.

Reprographic work

	draw, scan, or amend existing files;
	receive mono or colour input;
	proof in mono or colour, laser or digital;
	produce final output in any prescribed format.

We compete with traditional reprographic houses for quality and price, and also provide first-class typesetting to complement your approved artwork.

E-books

RCL produces e-books using application files from its own system, Quark or InDesign. Epub books can also be produced from PDFs or other archival data when requested.

Interactive CD production

Generation of linked files, indexing, incorporation of sound files, etc. with:

	fully searchable text
	production of ISO9660 images prior to glass-mastering
	CD duplication
	printing and packaging of CDs

Archiving/retrodigitisation

RCL is able to archive your old books, documents, photographs and any other material that has historical, sentimental or research importance. We can:

	scan your old/cherished material
	generate fully-linked images for CD or Web
	produce searchable files

Whether as a publisher, club/society member, or just for personal use, you benefit by archiving: for storage, retrieval and searching (e.g. bulky business documents, cherished memorabilia and photographs); and for printing and publishing at a later date
